A few years ago HPLC was using a competitive product but it simply did not deliver what the practice needed, so after assessing the various alternatives we decided to take the plunge and move over to Perfect Software for our accounts and case management. 

The solution

We were delighted to discover that Perfect Software’s system is not only very economical but also much easier to use than the previous system.

Better still, on the rare occasions that I have needed help, Perfect Software’s support, especially Marcus Lewis, has always been exemplary.  Anyone from our office can pick up the phone with a technical problem and if not solved immediately, someone from their support team will phone back quickly and talk us through the solution, even if it is not directly related to a Perfect Software issue.

What would you say to someone else thinking of using Perfect Software

We simply could not complete many of these complex processes manually and as we grow, and ask for new software licences, Perfect Software respond very quickly and efficiently. In addition to this, the change from the fee per case software to Perfect Software case management system is saving us over £24,000 per year. 

We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending them to anyone.  Help is always there whenever anybody rings up with a query, and whatever the problem.

Right from the outset it was clear that we needed both a package to log files and an accounting package designed for solicitors and legal practices.  It is simply impossible to do everything manually, whilst delivering superb client care and addressing compliance issues.  We needed integrated case management and accounting software that would be both competitive and extremely easy to use.  Perfect Software did exactly that.

What would you say to someone else thinking of using Perfect Software

Ultimately the Perfect Software legal system saves us a massive amount of time.  Without automatic case management and accounting we would be at least 20% less productive.  It goes without saying this translates to a full time Solicitor and a substantial amount of fee income. They provide superb value for money to our practice and if you are not receiving excellent support from your software supplier, then you should definitely talk to Perfect Software.

We would definitely recommend Perfect Software to other legal practices and indeed have done so on a number of occasions.

There is no telling what any week will entail as it is fluid and depends entirely on where we are with our cases, as well as taking meetings with people looking for advice about their situation. But the first thing I do each morning is log on to Perfect Books as it acts as the backbone of how we organise the day and our workload.

Once a client gives us an instruction, we open a file and fill in the necessary fields allowing us to keep track of all aspects of the case easily. I can log on from my desk and see work in progress on every file and who is working on which case.

I meet with our bookkeeper each week and as she also uses Perfect Books, she will know what needs to be paid or billed but the reports it generates also means that we have all the reports that we need to give us a bird’s eye view of the practice as a whole so we can make sure that it is running as it should.

Emails, letters, time recording, updating ledgers, whether it is a private or legal aid case, it can take care of all that you need it to and although we’re not the type of practice that expects to know exactly how each six minute slot has been filled, I do know that Perfect Books helps users to assess where they are spending too much time or failing to perform as they’d like.

It is an easy system to use and it should be as we’re lawyers, not IT specialists. For new employees joining the firm, it doesn’t take long to train anyone to use the system.  It can only be as good as what each user enters of course but I find that once you start using it, it’s like driving, you just do it without thinking about how you change gear.

I’ve used Perfect Books since 2006 so it’s second nature in some ways but there are occasions when we might ask more of it. For example, recently we wanted to add an additional layer of security, I was able to call the team at Perfect Software and they got to work on sorting that out for us.

What would you say to someone else thinking of using Perfect Software

It’s important to know that you are buying more than a product and Perfect Software offer decent service too. Their support team have always been very responsive and happy to help, whether logging in remotely to help a new user understand a function or to help us with something a little more bespoke.

Now is not an easy time for solicitors and it is an uncomfortable reality that the success or failure of a practice will be determined by cash flow.  It may not be why we became lawyers but we can’t hide from the fact that improving efficiencies matters.

“With three fee earning solicitors at the helm catering to the requirements of both private and commercial clients, we approached Perfect Software in search of an accounts package after spending time and a lot of hard work trying to manage this process manually for a number of years.

Whilst we don’t have the time and skills to write software and resolve these issues ourselves, we were convinced that Perfect Software did and we discovered a host of great value packages that would make automation easy and affordable for us.

What would you say to someone else thinking of using Perfect Software

We simply could not complete many of these complex processes manually and as we grow, and ask for new software licences, Perfect Software respond very quickly and efficiently. Ultimately the Perfect Software legal system saves us a massive amount of time.  Without automatic case management and accounting we would be at least 20% less productive.  It goes without saying this translates to a full time Solicitor and a substantial amount of fee income. They provide superb value for money to our practice and if you are not receiving excellent support from your software supplier, then you should definitely talk to Perfect Software.

We would definitely recommend Perfect Software to other legal practices and indeed have done so on a number of occasions.

There is no telling what any week will entail as it is fluid and depends entirely on where we are with our cases, as well as taking meetings with people looking for advice about their situation. But the first thing I do each morning is log on to Perfect Books as it acts as the backbone of how we organise the day and our workload.

Once a client gives us an instruction, we open a file and fill in the necessary fields allowing us to keep track of all aspects of the case easily. I can log on from my desk and see work in progress on every file and who is working on which case.

I meet with our bookkeeper each week and as she also uses Perfect Books, she will know what needs to be paid or billed but the reports it generates also means that we have all the reports that we need to give us a bird’s eye view of the practice as a whole so we can make sure that it is running as it should.

Emails, letters, time recording, updating ledgers, whether it is a private or legal aid case, it can take care of all that you need it to and although we’re not the type of practice that expects to know exactly how each six minute slot has been filled, I do know that Perfect Books helps users to assess where they are spending too much time or failing to perform as they’d like.

It is an easy system to use and it should be as we’re lawyers, not IT specialists. For new employees joining the firm, it doesn’t take long to train anyone to use the system.  It can only be as good as what each user enters of course but I find that once you start using it, it’s like driving, you just do it without thinking about how you change gear.

I’ve used Perfect Books since 2006 so it’s second nature in some ways but there are occasions when we might ask more of it. For example, recently we wanted to add an additional layer of security, I was able to call the team at Perfect Software and they got to work on sorting that out for us.

What would you say to someone else thinking of using Perfect Software

It’s important to know that you are buying more than a product and Perfect Software offer decent service too. Their support team have always been very responsive and happy to help, whether logging in remotely to help a new user understand a function or to help us with something a little more bespoke.

Now is not an easy time for solicitors and it is an uncomfortable reality that the success or failure of a practice will be determined by cash flow.  It may not be why we became lawyers but we can’t hide from the fact that improving efficiencies matters.

“With three fee earning solicitors at the helm catering to the requirements of both private and commercial clients, we approached Perfect Software in search of an accounts package after spending time and a lot of hard work trying to manage this process manually for a number of years.

Whilst we don’t have the time and skills to write software and resolve these issues ourselves, we were convinced that Perfect Software did and we discovered a host of great value packages that would make automation easy and affordable for us.
